Acne Myths

There are many myths about acne. Here are a few of them:

Myth: Acne is caused by poor hygiene. Reality: If you fall victim to this myth and find yourself washing as often and as hard as you can, you can actually be making your acne worse.

Myth: Acne is just a cosmetic disease. Reality: yes, acne does affect the way people look, and is not otherwise a serious threat to a person’s physical health, however, acne can result in permanent physical scarring.

Myth: You just have to let acne run its course. Reality: The truth is acne can be cleared up.

Myth: Only teens get acne. Reality: Acne generally begins in the early teen years and subsides in the late teens to mid 20’s, but many people develop acne late in that cycle or even late in their 20’s and 30’s.

Myth: Acne is caused by diet. Reality: Although this is a controversial topic, the prevention, control and treatment of acne can be greatly helped by eating the proper foods and maintaining a balanced diet.

Myth: If the celebrities are using it … it must be true! Reality: If for one second, you believe that supermodels and famous people are providing their name and their services to the leading competitors of the skin care world for nothing -- think again!
